'Teddy', a Steiff teddy bear
with dark blonde mohair, black boot button eyes, pronounced clipped muzzle, black stitched nose, mouth and claws, swivel head, jointed elongated limbs with felt pads, hump and FF button in ear, circa 1910 --13½in. (34cm.) high (some matting, small stitched repair to top of chest and backing cloth on nose discoloured)

'Teddy' was given to Joyce E. Bateman by her parents aboard the S.S. Victoria while travelling from Southampton to Halifax in 1910, for their new life in Toronto, Canada.
Joyce was born in 1907 in Sawstom near Cambridge, England.
In 1951 he survived a fire, the whole apartment was gutted, but fortunately 'Teddy' was stored in Joyce's cabin trunk in the basement, and he was hauled out completely unsinged.
