A very rare Steiff saleman sample card for pom-pom animals
the animals correct to the card with corresponding labels - 2505 Lamb with button and red tag, 1508 Owl with button and red tag, 2504 Guinea Pig with button and red tag, 3506 Squirrel with button and red tag, 2504 grey Mouse with button and red tag (card label incorrectly labelled 2505) and 1503 Ladybird, all attached to a green card measuring --11½in. (29cm.) x 7½in. (19cm.);
additional labels only on the card - 2504 white Mouse, a second 1504 Ladybird, 6509 Duck, 2506 Cat, 1506B Duck, 1506G Duck, 2504 Duck and 1504 Duck;
additional pom-pom animals attached to the card - 2504,4 white and black Rabbit with button and red cloth tag, 1506 yellow Duck with button and red tag, 1507,5 pink Duck with button and red tag, 1506 Drake (missing bill), 2504,2 beige and white Rabbit with button and tag, 6508,1 green and yellow bird with loose button and red tag and 6504 Robin;

Provenance
This sample set belonged to Mr. George D. Prince, representative for Greiner & Co., the Steiff agent in London. After the Nazis rise to power in Germany he joined the British firm of Roberts Bros. of Gloucester, manufacturers of toys, games and childrens furniture.
Christie's sold this item originally in September 1989, lot 356 and also from the property of Mr. Prince lot 9, an Steiff elephant pin cushion in December 2001 and a head-turning Scottie dog.
