Oblong 2o (195 x 318 mm). 26 leaves. Engraved title, 24 engraved calligraphic initials, one page of calligraphic verse, all by Sager, the 24 initial-pages complete in calligraphic manuscript in black, gilt, silver and red by Hanns Kropp in the same year (1614), interleaved with 13 black leaves and 2 white leaves with calligraphic exercises in silver, white, gilt, yellow and black also by Hanns Kropp (initial "I" traced with pin pricks to copy pattern and reinsered, pin pricks also visible on initial "K.") Contemporary blind and gilt stamped calf over paste boards, border of two triple fillets and floral roll tool, small oval arabesque at center (rebacked, portion of old spine laid down, corners worn). Provenance: Hippolyte Destailleur (bookplate); purchased from Harry A. Levinson, 11 February 1956.

German "inital-book" books are rare. The writing master kept a school in the Hanseatic port of Lübeck.
