[EMBROIDERED BINDING]. Manuscript collection of songs and arias for solo voice and small string ensemble, containing works by Giovanni Adolfo Hasse detto Il Sassone (6), Giovanni Lampugnani (2), Andrea Bernascone (2), and unattributed. [Italy(?), ca.1750].
210 x 280mm. 168pp., in ink on heavy paper, 10 staves to the page, text and titles in an italic hand, AN EMBROIDERED BINDING: contemporary olive green silk over boards, the covers finely worked in silk thread in greens, reds and browns, elaborately depicting a garden scene of two urns full of flowers and a lattice-work in silver thread supporting stylized embroidered strawberries, fruits and leaves; plain spine silver paper endpages. (Silver endpages slightly discolored.).
Hasse (1699-1783) studied in Naples, where he befriended Alessandro Scarlatti, composed his first operas and married the celebrated singer Faustina Bordogni, whose name is attached to at least three of Hasse's compositions in this manuscript.
