TROMPE L'OEIL -- Pieter van WAESBERGHE the younger (1714-80, Rotterdam printer). Niet algemene konst werken, alle uit de vuist met de pen geschreven. Rotterdam, January 1733 - 12 December 1736, 1764.
4o (260 x 205 mm). CALLIGRAPHIC MANUSCRIPT ON PAPER. 30 leaves (35 pages) and one folded sheet of calligraphic exercises in brown and red ink, including one with engraved collage showing a portrait of Laurens Jansz. Coster and an emblemetic figure of printing, 11 with trompe l'oeil effect, one in mirror writing, ten incorporating drawings, several imitating printing, some signed and dated. Contemporary Dutch gilt-panelled marbled calf, gilt spine, (binding slightly rubbed, broken ties). Provenance: bought from Offenbacher in 1956.
Fine characteristic 18th-century Dutch calligraphic and trompe l'oeil exercises by a member of a celebrated family of Flemish and Dutch printers, whose activities spanned almost three centuries.
