Two title pages on vellum, 80 mounted leaves, all with elaborate full-page illuminated borders, many pages incorporating mounted photographic reproductions of works of art, text in a gothic hand. Varying carved wooden covers, morocco gilt spines (covers bowed, one cover with vertical crack, joints cracked). Provenance: purchased from the Chiswick Book Shop, 20 June 1958.
Two handsome volumes of manuscript leaves, with floral borders, portraits and vignettes done in a variety of colors. Photographs of women, apparently the illuminators and perhaps sisters, appear on each of the title-pages. The first leaf in the second volume commemorates the marriage of Albert Edward and Alexandra, the Prince and Princess of Wales, on 10 March 1863. The texts are quotations from the Bible, Shakespeare, Coleridge, and others. (2)
