[GERMAN MANUSCRIPT.] BLITTERSDORFF, Antonie von. Sprüche zu den Miniaturen des Jehan Fouquet von Freifräulein Antonie v. Blittersdorff. Frankfurt, 1866.

270 x 202 mm. Title with large historiated and gilt border on vellum, 40 manuscript leaves in a gothic hand with Biblical quotations, illuminated initials and decorative borders (each approximately 130 x 95 mm and mounted on card) interleaved with 40 photoreproductions of Biblical scenes by Jean Fouquet, with blindstamp of J. Schaefer (a few manuscript leaves separating from mounts). Contemporary brown pigskin over beveled wooden boards, metal rosettes at the corners, brass catches, leather thongs, crowned metal initials of the illuminator "AB" at center of front cover, by Schlender & Edlinger. Provenance: Antonie von Blittersdorff (manuscript, initials on binding); purchased from Emil Offenbacher, 10 December 1955.

A fine example of modern miniature-making, by a German lady of nobility. The Biblical quotations, in a very fine German calligraphy, are decorated with fine miniatures in gold and colors. The manuscript leaves are punctuated by early photoreproductions of the works of the 15th century French painted Jean Fouquet.
