8o (241 x 158 mm). PRINTED IN GOLD. 5 preliminary leaves, 347 pages of text and 4 hand-colored engraved plates. Text within elaborate gold decorated frames. Contemporary black velvet, front side with pierced and engraved silver frames mounted, incorporating stems, tendrils and leaves and an angel holding an escutcheon, back side with simpler silver border, spine with rich floral and leaf silver ornamentation incorporating a putto's head with wings, chiseled clasp showing the crowned Hapsburg eagle, silk doublures and flyleaves; contemporary limp-leather folding case with wallet-style enclosure. Provenance: purchased from Lucien Goldschmidt, 2 August 1958.
LIMITED EDITION, one of only 15 copies printed entirely in gold, on glazed-coated paper. The decorative frames around the text, of which there are eight various styles, are also printed in gold. The editor states in his foreward that he believes this to be the first book exclusively printed in gold. It was published as a tribute to Archduke Ludwig of Austria-Hungary.
