4o (271 x 212 mm). Printed in embossed relief type for the use of the blind. (Some soiling.) Contemporary French red boards imitating straight-grained morocco, covers with gilt floral border, gilt arms of the Duc de Bourbon at center, smooth spine gilt (wormed at extremities). Provenance: Louis-Henri-Joseph de Bourbon-Conde (1756-1830, binding); purchased from Emil Offenbacher, 16 January 1962.
FIRST EDITION of this scarce work, printed by and for the blind in tangible letters on heavy card stock. Guillée was a French physician and director of the institution for blind youths where the book was printed. The text contains a history of the institution and a description of the printing process.
