Contemprary French "landscape" bindings, olive-stained calf, each cover with a central panel left unstained and with a rural landscape of a river, bridge, cottages, a church and a man with a pack horse engraved in black, smooth spines gilt, pink morocco lettering pieces; cloth slipcase. Provenance: purchased from Emil Offenbacher, 4 May 1966.
FINE ETCHED BINDINGS, the design executed by producing a copperplate design that is printed in the leather. The copperas or other acid solution bites into the leather and the strength of the solution determines the depth of the blacks. (3)
