6 volumes, small 8o (135 x 91 mm). Uniformly bound in fine "Mauchiline Ware" bindings of wooden boards with tartan designs transferred from paper onto the sycamore boards and heavily varnished, identified at top in gilt-lettering, crimson morocco spines, gilt-lettered and decorated, edges gilt, complete in the original velvet-lined wooden box covered with a tartan print and varnished, the top with a reproduction of Chantry's bust of Scott on top.
A fine set of Black's "Mauchiline Ware" bindings, the tartans of the covers being the ones worn by different Scottish clans: Stuart, McBeth, Prince Charlie, McLean. For a similar binding see McLean Victorian Publishers' Book Bindings in Cloth and Leather p.49. (6)
