ILLUMINATED MANUSCRIPT ON VELLUM, 11 leaves (i.e. written or decorated on 19 pages, including colophon), plus 4 blank vellum leaves at front and 2 at rear, written in a semi-gothic script in black, with some initial letters or words in red. Title-page with full-page miniature of the Blessed Damozel after Rossetti, surrounded by a finely illuminated floral border in colors with burnished gold; the facing title-page with the title in red, incorporating a large initial with a full-page historiated border in colors containing an angel and a vignette of a Saint, all against a background of burnished gold; at end of text is a miniature of the Blessed Damozel weeping within an historiated border incorporating an initial I against burnished gold background, the opposite page contains a partial border incorporating 2 initials and similarly decorated; 7 larger illuminated initials with backgrounds and borders of various colors, some with extravagant foliage and ornamental decoration, other smaller initials in red and gold with penwork decoration.

Full light blue crushed levant by Morrell, front cover with gilt fillet border surrounding large inlaid panel containing elaborate all-over lilly design in various colored onlays with gilt-dot decoration, enclosing recessed central arabesque panel containing smaller gilt-dot and floral arabesque panel with finely executed gilt-stipple and onlaid floral interlace panel surrounding the title in gilt, back cover with gilt strapwork border surrounding floral gilt-tooled panel enclosing recessed central oval panel containing a finely executed gilt-stipple and floral interlace panel in gilt with tiny onlays, spine in six compartments, gilt-lettered in two, a repeated gilt and onlaid floral design repeated in the rest, board edges with double gilt fillets, turn-ins richly gilt with interlacing floral design, white calf doublures with gilt cross-hatch pattern, free endpages of ivory watered silk, gilt edges, stamp-signed on lower turn-in: "Morrell Binder, London"; straight-grained morocco clamshell box. Provenance: purchased from Emil Offenbacher, 2 January 1947.
