A CASTELLI INVERTED BALUSTER VASE AND COVER

Painted with a continuous seascape with a river goddess holding a palm tree and a jug, Cupid holding a cloth with a heart with an arrow through it flanked by two putto, another river goddess with two putti above Cupid aiming an arrow and with Cupid holding a flaming torch beneath a band with putti holding flowers about cartouches with bearded masks below the cylindrical neck with flower-sprays, the rim with a band of suspended drapery, the lower part with further drapery, on a spreading foot with putti holding flower-sprays, the domed cover with two birds in flight between cartouches with infant mask heads (the foot broken in several places and repaired and with restored section, minor glaze flaking to rim)
