Lot Essay

Designed in the Louis Quatorze Roman’ fashion promoted by Andre-Charles Boulle, the Cupid-crowned clock celebrates the sun deity Apollo and the Spring season, with a bas-relief of Proserpine and Pluto inspired by Ovid’s, Metamorphoses. The Paris clockmaker Tallon was elected Maitre in 1737.
