The torchere, with palm-wrapped pillar, addorsed vestals and tripod 'claw' on lion monopodiae is signed by the Holborn plaster figure-maker and lamp-manufacturer Robert Shout (d. 1823) who issued an 1806 bill-head advertising such 'figures and tripods holding lamps or candles..’'.
