Benjamin Walton formed a partnership with William Ryton in Wolverhampton from circa 1810 becoming one of the most prominent japanning factories in the West Midlands. The latter retired in 1842 leaving Walton as the sole owner of the business. His eldest son Frederick continued after his father's death in 1847.
