The serpentine-fronted Rouge Royal marble top with moulded edge, above two drawers decorated sans traverse with an exotic landscape with a bird and a cockerel in the foreground within a border decorated with leaves and husks, above an apron mounted with a pierced clasp cast with rockwork, foliage and C-scrolls, the sides with conformingly decorated panels, the angles headed by pierced foliate mounts, on slightly cabriole legs terminating in foliate sabots, stamped three times 'F. GARNIER' and 'JME', with an old paper label inscribed 'cette commode est signee f. garnier ME sur les quatre côtés au dessous du marbre' and with cut-out auction catalogue description by 'Paulme & Lacquin' printed 'PETITE COMMODE de forme contournée, ouvrant à deux tiroirs, en laque noire, à décor de paysages et oiseaux en dorure. Elle est ornée de bronzes ciselés et dorés du maître ébéniste F. GARNIER. Dessus de marbre. Epoque Louis XV.., inscribed in chalk 'S.E. 677', the japanning applied on oriental lacquer
