Du Val's work is surprisingly rare and reminiscent of the maps produced by his uncle Nicolas Sanson, one of the foremost French 17th century cartographers. The present image includes the east coast of Africa, Arabia, India, the East Indies, Australia (with discoveries to 1628), China, Indo-China, Korea and Japan.
