Benson, London. Circa 1840
The silvered engraved dial signed J.W. Benson. 25 Old Bond Strt. London beneath the Roman chapter ring with blued steel hands and seconds ring at XII, the massive movement with triple fusees with three spring barrels and chain lines, maintaining power to the going fusee, the quarters struck on two gongs, the hours struck on a further gong, repeat button to the right side, large gilt-brass platform with cut bimetallic compensated balance with flat hairspring, underslung lever escapement, the backplate signed Benson London, the case with bowed handle to the beaded top set with large bevelled glass escapement viewing aperture, the four sides with gilt steps flanked by deep chamfered angles
