The Madonna and Child

This painting shows the clear influence of Fra Bartolommeo and Andrea del Sarto, influences that remained throughout Puligo's career, especially in his devotional paintings that, together with the portraits, formed the mainstay of his oeuvre. Like so many of his successful compositions, Puligo made other versions; a very similar painting, of slightly smaller dimensions, is in Florence, Museo di Palazzo Martelli.
