We are grateful to Dr. Mary Newcome Schleier for proposing the attribution to Giovanni Francesco Castiglione on the basis of photographs. Son and pupil of Giovanni Benedetto Castiglione, Giovanni Francesco worked with his father and succeeded him as court painter to the Duke of Mantua.
