The accompanying text reads
Kono so wa tsutsushimi-bukaku, mata ijitsu yoku, yabo naranu so nari, mikata ni totte wa onna ippiki narubeshi and has been translated by Shugo Asano and Timothy Clark as "This type is reserved, strong-willed and sophisticated: some would regard her as a prize specimen of womanhood"

A young woman holds up a letter in front of her and clutches it with such intensity that it has become creased, although some of the text can still be read........Kuwashiki koto sono..... (I'll tell you the details when.....), signed in the left-hand cartouche Kanso Utamaro (Utamaro the Physiognomist), published by Tsuruya Kiemon, good impression, colours, faded, good condition, laid down
Oban tate-e: 38.1 x 26.0cm.
