A MOUNTED UNSHU KATANA
Signed Unshu Morisada, Muromachi Period (15th Century)
Sugata [configuration]: honzukuri with mitsumune, of even width and with a substantial chu-kissaki
Kitae [forging pattern]: itame nagare with mokume, and areas flowing almost into masame.
Hamon [tempering pattern]: suguha with gunome, tobiyaki, and nijuba, shirake utsuri starts as a form of mizukage at the lower part of the blade
Boshi [tip]: the omote boshi is midare komi, and that on the ura o-maru.
Nakago [tang]: suriage
Nagasa [length of blade from tip to beginning of tang]: 70.5cm
Koshirae [mounting]: handachi mounting with a red lacquer saya, tsuka and scabbard fittings are of shakudo engraved with karakusa, shakudo menuki of dragons with gilt details, oval shakudo tsuba carved with waves within a raised rim, 19th century.
