Of rectangular form, the black lacquer ground decorated in two colours of gold takamaki-e with aoi-mon and chrysanthemums amongst karakusa, interior and the underside of the cover in mura-nashiji and the box lined with gilt paper, the elaborate gilt copper nanako mounts incised with aoi-mon and fuji-mon [wisteria-crests] amid kiku and karakusa, fitted with hinged brackets for a carrying pole
