The black lacquer ground exterior decorated in hiramaki-e, takamaki-e, nashiji and red lacquer, with, on the two hinged front doors, tree peonies and chrysanthemums on hillocks and on the top, chrysanthemums and Chinese bellflowers, the doors opening to reveal seven drawers, the fronts all decorated with flowering grasses and the interior of the doors in gold and silver hiramaki-e, the reverse of the doors with geese and sedge in silver and pale green lacquer, brass mounts and handles
