TWO KISERUZUTSU [PIPECASE]
Edo Period (19th Century)
The first of muso-zutsu form wood, the lacquer imitating bark, with a snake coiling along the pipecase; the second of otoshi-zutsu form, lacquered to imitate a branch, in the centre an inlaid silver plaque bearing a poem

naka naka ni tsuzura ori The zig-zag mountain path disappears
naru michi taete covered with snow
Yuki ni tonari and neighbours come nearer
no chikaki yama zato in the mountain village
