An early Victorian engraved gilt-brass carriage timepiece, circa 1840
The case with acorn finials and reeded columns to all angles, engraved with foliate scrolls against a lined ground to the front and sides, plain rear door, stamped GW and 109 to the underside, the silvered dial with Roman chapter ring, signed FRENCH/ROYAL EXCHANGE/LONDON, blued steel hands, the eight day single barrel movement with platform lever escapement positioned to the back plate, with plain steel balance -- 4¾ in. (12 cm.) high, handle down
