A George II Scottish ebonised striking table clock with pull quarter repeat, circa 1740
The case with brass handle to inverted bell top, with cast brass figural and foliate double frets to the sides, the front and rear doors with leafy spandrel frets, the brass dial with female mask and foliate spandrels to silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with diamond half hour markers, the matted centre with mock pendulum aperture with engraved back plate, silvered signature plaque inscribed Jno. Brown Edinburgh above date aperture, steel hands, strike/silent ring in the arch, the eight day twin gut fusee movement with five pillars, verge escapement with hour strike on bell and pull quarter repeat on six bells, the back plate engraved with leafy scrolls and a fruit basket -- 15¾ in.
