A pair of famille rose vases, 19th century
each of elongated oviform shape with a slightly waisted neck and galleried rim, the body decorated with two panels enclosing a dragon and phoenix pursuing the flaming pearl amidst cloud and fire scrolls, flanked by four panels with birds perched on blossoming trees, the neck similarly decorated, all reserved on blue ground with foliated flowers, with stylised petal panels above the foot and ruyi-head and bats borders around the shoulder and rim, the interior of the rim with four iron-red characters "Huairen tang zhi" (The Hall of Cherished Benevolence) -- maximum 54 5/16in. (138cm.) high, wood stands (2)
