Details
A VICTORIAN PARCEL-GILT SILVER NOVELTY INKWELL,
MARK OF RAWLINGS & SUMMERS, LONDON, 1850,
Modelled as a monkey dressed in a military coatee & plumed bicorn hat, beating a drum, the hat detachable, presumably to then act as a pen-holder, the shell of the drum swivelling outwards to reveal the inkwell contained inside, standing on a circular mounted wood base, the inside of the drum's base with registration lozenge for 27/2/1851, the apparent anomaly between date letter & date of design registration explained by the fact that the date letter in London changed in May.
4½ in. high (11.5 cm.)
Special notice
VAT rate of 17.5% is payable on hammer price plus buyer's premium.
