A GEORGE III SILVER TONTINE INKSTAND,
MARK OF HENRY CHAWNER, LONDON, 1789,
Of oval boat shape with turned-over scroll ends, on bracket feet with reeded borders, with 2 mounted hob-nail cut-glass receivers on rams' heads & hoof supports, centred by an upright rectangular nib compartment with a ram's head at each of the chamfered corners, engraved with 2 crests & the arms of Hopkins quartering another, surmounted by a detachable obelisk cover wit ball finial upon whose 4 sides are inscribed the 31 names of the tontine, commencing with Thomas Clarke Esquire, died February 11th., 1730, aged 72, terminating with Elizabeth Bond, died November 30th., 1787, aged 62, 11 in. high (28 cm.), 12¼ in. long (31 cm.).
