Further details
Used between 1/12/1784 and 24/7/1785, the incuse mark of Britannia was struck on all plate intended for export to indicate repayment of duty already charged when the piece was assayed. Damage to the finished articles & the delay caused in exporting the items meant this practice was short-lived. It is significant that no crest or arms are on the piece as this would have been added to order when it reached the retailer abroad.
