A VICTORIAN SILVER CHRISTENING MUG,
MARK OF MESSRS. BARNARD, LONDON, 1872,
Barrel-shaped with cylindrical neck, beaded rim & angular Greek key handle capped by a bead finial, gilt interior, engraved with two titled panels depicting two of Aesop's Fables, "The Dog in the Manger" & "The Lion & the Mouse", the neck & foot engraved with flower-heads, buds & bead motifs on a frosted ground, the front crested within a decorative wreath of flowers, the pennant of the crest inscribed with the recipient's name, "Ada Jane", 5 in. high (12.5 cm.), 5.75 oz.
