Further details
Founded in 1831, the Royal Irish Yacht Club's first Commodore was the hero of Waterloo, the Marquis of Anglesey, who lost a leg in the battle. The Club House, designed by the brilliant architect, John Skipton Mulvany, has an interior virtually unchanged in 140 years. The club is located in Dun Laoghaire Harbour, Co. Dublin. Former members include the First Duke of Wellington, elected 1833, and Admiral Sir Charles Napier, elected 1848.
In fact, although this posy holder was intended for presentation to The Queen on her arrival at Dublin in 1899, she arrived too early to meet the reception committee.
