Château Lafite-Rothschild--Vintage 1962
Pauillac, 1er cru classé
Bin-soiled and stained labels, three damaged. Levels: eight top and four upper-shoulder
Tasting Note: Many notes. It has a shade of red that is typical of many '62s, indicating highish - but usually tolerable and refreshing acidity. Several recent notes including in 1996 an impériale with a herbaceous, vegetal nose that opened up beautifully, and even better flavour though with citrus-like acidity on the finish. Two years later a double magnum also displaying the distinctive '62 redness; dry, lively, berry-like, crisp. Most recently, several bottles now showing colour loss and age on the nose, lean and pinched. Last noted at the American Club, Tokyo, prior to the annual wine auction, Now 1995. At best lean, elegant **** M.B.
