Lot Essay

These candlesticks with lion-footed pedestals, and theatrical masks relating to those illustrated in Thomas Hope's Household Furniture and Interior Decoration, 1807 (pl. 37), is in the manner of the William Bullock (d.1836). Bullock took out a patent for a pair of cassolette with similar bases in 1805.
