A SELECTION OF SUPER-PREMIUM AUSTRALIAN WINES TO BE SOLD FOR THE BENEFIT OF MEDECINS SANS FRONTIERES (ARTSEN ZONDER GRENZEN)
Lots 1 to 52
To celebrate the 400th anniversary of the first contact between the Dutch and the people of Australia, Christie's in association with the Australian Wine and Brandy Coroporation are delighted to be offering this section of high quality wines, the proceeds from which will be donated to the charity Médecins sans Frontières.
The wines have been shipped directly from the wineries and we are delighted that so many producers decided to contribute to this worthy cause
Médecins sans Frontières has been providing humanitarian and emergency medical assistance throughout the world since 1971. They work in the rehabilitation of hospitals and dispensaries, vaccination programmes and water and sanitation projects. MSF also works in remote health care centres, slum areas and provides training of local personnel.
In order to prevent compromise or manipulation of their relief activities, MSF maintains neutrality and independence from individual governments and this means that the majority of funds raised for its work comes directly from contributions from the general public. Therefore we are extremely pleased to be involved in this fund-raising event for this well-deserving cause
We would also like to thank Sacha Oerlemans and Dale Nouwens from the Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation for their help in sourcing the wines for this section of the sale
D'ARENBERG
The Coppermine Road Cabernet Sauvignon--Vintage 2002
McLaren Vale. d'Arenberg
Tasting note: The 2002 The Coppermine Road Cabernet Sauvignon may turn out to be even better than the 2001. A longer, cooler growing season has produced an inky/ruby/purple-hued wine with a big, sweet nose of crème de cassis, graphite, blackberries, incense, roasted meat and background vanilla. Full-bodied and well-extracted, it is clearly made from low yielding vines. Drink this heady, rich layered Cabernet between 2008-2020. 93 points. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
