Lot Essay

The wood, shape and carving of this commode are characteristic of the oeuvre of the cabinet-makers in Provence in the mid-18th Century. A related example of a fine commode with two paneled drawers and a closely matching delicately carved pierced apron is illustrated in H. Algoud, Meubles et Ensembles Provençaux, Paris, 1949, p.6.
