Lot Essay

The credenza was a very popular type of furniture in Italy in the 17th century, which came in several related shapes. The most common form is one comparable to a side-board, upon which, originally, food would be placed before serving it.
A wide array of related credenzas is illustrated in Silvano Colombo, L'Arte dellegno e del mobile in Italia, Bramante Editrice, 1981.
