Modelled standing and wearing a fur-lined coat and playing the banjo on a fossilized marble base, minor losses

Lot Essay

This charming figure is inspired by the work of Demetri Chiparus (1886-1947). Chiparus, who was born in Romania, schooled in Italy, and worked in Paris during the Art Deco period, was celebrated for his sculptures in bronze and ivory, which were mainly female figures.
