The arms are those born by Isidore-Elizabeth-Jean-Baptiste Alleye de Ciprey, who became Baron Alleye de Cyprey in 1830. Born in Gaudeloupe in 1784, he was appointed Minister Plenipotentiary in Mexico in 1840. This may have been commissioned to celebrate his enoblement in 1830, following his second marriage in 1824 to Mme. Jacoby.
A closely related carpet, almost certainly manufactured in the same workshop, is illustrated in M. J. Mayorcas, English Needlework Carpets 16th-19th Centuries, Leigh-on-Sea, 1963, pl.68.
