The rounded padded back and seat with later brown tapestry cover decorated with flowering urns and studded edges, on carved cabriole legs headed by scrolling acanthus leaves, on outward-turned paw feet, the back seat rail with paper label inscribed in ink 'The Right Hon. Lord Auckland', The Old Palace Yard', blocks largely replaced, ears largely original, pegged construction

Lot Essay

A comparable George II walnut side chair was offered from the Chatsworth Collection, Christie's, London, 26 June 1958, lot 109. This chair has similarly carved cabriole legs headed by scrolled acanthus.
