Lot Essay

Henri Jacob (1753-1824), who became maître in 1779, came from a famous family of menuisiers, or chair makers. The chairs of Henri Jacob very clearly bear the famous Jacob signature in design, shape and decoration, and many of his chairs are extremely closely related to those of his famous cousin Georges Jacob. Consequently, related stools can be found stamped not only by Henri Jacob but also by Georges Jacob.
