CHATEAU PALMER
Palmer has long endeared itself to wine lovers who consistently pay prices that surpass those of its higher cru contemporaries. No doubt one of the sexiest wines of the left bank, Palmer adds more Merlot than any other Margaux for the combination of fleshy fat fruit tamed by a quintessential Margaux nose. Extremely long maceration periods and juice that is never filtered give additional dimension to the wines. Todays selection represents Palmers glory days when the best wines of Margaux appellation were those of Château Palmer.

Château Palmer--Vintage 1928
Cantenac (Margaux), 3me cru classé
Level: mid shoulder; Nicholas Reserve strip neck label
"The 1928 is another extraordinary wine from that vintage that has taken 50+ years to reach its plateau of maturity. Pity the consumer who purchased a wine from this vintage in the thirties thinking they would drink it within their lifetime! The wine exhibits considerable rust and amber at the edge, as well as an intensely fragrant fruitcake, cedar, gingery nose, remarkably chewy, ripe flavors, and some of the vintage's renowned austerity and tannic bite. Where it has been well-stored, it remains a terrific example of the vintage. Wine Advocate #95 (Oct 1994). Robert Parker.
