CHATEAU LEOVILLE-LAS CASES

Jean-Hubert Delon the fourth generation proprietor of Leoville-Las Cases continues the trend of producing great wines the equivalent of a first growth wine begun by his father in the mid 1970s on this large meticulously kept estate. The emphasis on quality has been long standing, though, with a second wine for declassified juice being introduced as early as the 1902 vintage with even a third wine now in the fold. Close proximity and similar soil to Chateau Latour becomes a more muscular style than typical in St. Julien intensified by the high percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon. Leoville-Las Cases is full-bodied, concentrated and tannic wine. Indeed, a quintessential claret which says, "I am the lion which does not bite unless the enemy attacks first."
