CHATEAU VIEUX-CHATEAU-CERTAN
Auspiciously positioned among Pétrus, l'Evangile and La Conseillante, Vieux-Château-Certan had the reputation as the most noble of Pomerol estates during the first of half of the last century. The complexity and long-lived nature of VCC, as it is fondly referred to, is engendered by the cepage of higher than normal percentage of Cabernet Franc and fairly decent sized wallop of Cabernet Sauvignon played out through the terroir of a gravely topsoil over a deep clay, iron-rich base. Fermentation in old wooden vats and judicious usage of new oak allow for a continuation of this traditional style. Perhaps VCC is not intent on full-throttle power, but is all the more endearing and beloved by for its complex, velvety elegance and superb length and the aromatic juxtaposition of floral and herbaceous notes signed by distinctly medocy cedar note
