LAFLEUR DE GAY

Château Lafleur de Gay produced by proprietor Alain Raynaud takes fruit from two plots of old vines located on the Pomerol plateau between Pétrus and Lafleur.

Lafleur de Gay is produced from 100 Merlot, and is aged in 100 new oak barriques for 18 months. Lafleur de Gay is a powerful, meaty and full-bodied Pomerol that is also exceptionally well-balanced and harmonious. A little over 1,000 cases a year are produced.

The bouquet of the black/ruby/purple-colored 1988 remains tight, but with swirling, one can detect scents of smoky, toasty oak, black plums, allspice, and Asian spices. There are gobs of super-ripe fruit in this extremely concentrated wine. Very structured, with considerable tannin, this massive, full-bodied 1988 will provide a dazzling glass of decadent Pomerol. Anticipated maturity: 1994-2010. Wine Advocate #88 (Aug 1993). Robert Parker.
