We thank John Richardson for identifying the collectors' stamp in the lower left corner of the drawing as that of Paul Adamidi Frasheri Bey, Grand Chamberlain in the court of the King of Albania.

The studies in this drawing anticipate the seated male figure and other elements that appear in Le Harem (Zervos, vol. 1, no. 321; The Cleveland Museum of Art), the largest and most important painting that Picasso executed during his stay in the Spanish town of Gosol during the summer of 1906.
