Lot Essay

Compare a similarly animated painted pottery horse illustrated in In Pursuit of Antiquities: Thirty-fifth Anniversary Exhibition of the Min Chiu Society, Hong Kong Museum of Art, 22 December 1995 - 18 February 1996, no. 83.

Another example with similarly knotted blanket and rippled mane, but with head tilted to the left, was sold in these rooms, 20 September 2005, lot 174.

The result of Oxford Authentication Ltd. thermoluminescence test no. C205d91 is consistent with the dating of this lot.
