The domed cover fluidly painted in brown over a white slip with a leafy spray, all under a clear glaze, the box similarly covered in a white slip and clear glaze and raised on a very low ring foot

Lot Essay

Compare the Cizhou circular covered box of similar distinctive compressed form, decorated with a floral spray painted in dark slip, illustrated in Zhongguo taoci quanji, 28, (Shanxi taoci), Shanghai, 1984, no. 37, and another example decorated with a peony spray from the Falk Collection, sold in these rooms, 20 September 2001, lot 63.
